Marshmallow Eating Contest

As a kid being exposed to a Kiss record and my dad knowing how to play a little guitar, it was inevitable I'd be playing someday. Christmas of 1986 was the break for me to start that dream. My parents bought me a Harmony bass to learn how to play it. Between that time and the following summer, 2 neighborhood kids, my brother, and myself put our first band together with me on guitar, The Urge. From that point we practiced as much as we could until we drove our parents nuckin futs, 1 guy left the band, and our location of practice changed to another location. Again, we practiced and practiced until that situation fell apart thus ending The Urge days.

Over the next year or so, I played acoustic gigs as a duo act and was trying to put another band together. Once we got the band in line, practiced some, and chose the name we wanted (Syntax), one thing lead into another and the remaining members formed a band called Night Wing.

Night Wing started with 4 members and had a pretty good run at the local bar scene playing weekends. This line up actually opened for the national recorist band Night Ranger at Sizzle Jam '93. Shortly after that, Night Wing became a power tri and also had the pleasure of opening for Dangerous Toys in fall of '94. In the end, I was the last standing soldier and folded what was left of the band.

I took on frontman duties for a band called Driving Sideways, which lasted around a year before moving on to a grunge band called Middle Earth.
Middle Earth is the only band I've ever practiced more than have played out. The times were great until I ended up in the hospital with a collapsed lung. Working 2 jobs and trying to juggle the hours of practice we did each day was the cause of why they dismissed me.

After recovering from my surgery, I became a part of Facing West, an acoustic trio, that didn't work out well simply because everyone lived too far away from each other. During this time, I played at bluegrass festivals and was a part of a praise team in a church I belonged to. While playing at the same time with the praise team and a bar band, I was let go from the praise team.

The bar band was Driving Sideways getting back together with a new line up and we stayed together for about another year until it folded.
At this time, I was on a writing team trying to record an album that we were going to try pushing as a band. While we were half finished with recording, I joined an all 80's band called Retro Active.

Retro Active was the most successful local band I've ever been in. We only played 4 shows a month, but every show we played had wall to wall people. We even made it on the cover of Pennsylvania Musician Magazine and opened for national recordist Skid Row. It was a great run until the last 6 months of playing. I was debatable who would stay with the band and leave because of prior commitments.

In the last 8 months playing with them, I started an acoustic duo and for the first time in my life was going to give music a 100% go to make a living out of it. Strike 1 came when my partner Jim quit on me. Thankfully, Kenny from Retro and the studio project we were working on together took his place and we started playing 4 to 5 nights a week gaining ground fast.

In April of 2004, I came to Key West on vacation and ended up getting the acoustic duo booked at Sloppy Joe's for a week and another 3 weeks at Irish Kevin's. We had a blast and there was an offer for us to possibly come back down.

After we got back from Key West, we each took a small vacation, and when we came back, Kenny decided to quit music for good. That decision effected not only the acoustic duo, but also the original project we worked on for a few years.

From hearing that devastation, I decided to go as a solo act for the first time in my life and ended up getting the job at Irish Kevin's working 5 days a week as an entertainer. I started full time on January 14th, 2005 and have been here in Key West ever since.

Never in a million years did I think I'd have a full time job playing music and am really thankful for it. You never know what tomorrow will bring, but for right now, I'm completely content and can spend 100% of time improving goals. I can't thank enough all who've stood by my side throughout this. My dream in life is being fulfilled.
